Chronic Hypertension During the First Trimester of Pregnancy: What is New About the Use of Angiotensin- Converting Enzyme Inhibitors?
Cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of maternal
mortality and morbidity worldwide, including developed countries. The first-line drug to treat hypertension in pregnant women
is methyldopa, which is an α2-adrenergic agent that has shown
maternal and fetal safety and efficacy. However, methyldopa is not
effective in all cases, and sometimes it is important to consider
other pharmacological agents.
